Sina Hensel is a Brussels-based visual artist. She holds a practice-based PhD from the Make/Sense PhD program between the Academy of Art and Design Basel, the University of Arts Linz, and Humboldt University of Berlin. Since 2024 she is also a researcher at the Art&Ecology Research Group of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp and since 2019, she has also been working as a research associate in the Research and Teaching Unit of Artistic Methods at RWTH Aachen University where she since 2026 holds a postdoctoral position. With a background in painting, her artistic practice focuses on chromatic processes in the environment – phenomena that emerge as direct or indirect consequences of human-induced climate change and the Anthropocene. Her research and practice develop an understanding of artistic work that radically decentres the human and therefore equally considers the colouring processes of lakes, microorganisms, plants, mountains, birds, and many other life forms.

She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe (DE), the University of Fine Arts Hamburg (DE), and at HISK – Higher Institute for Fine Arts in Ghent (BE). Her work has been shown at the 18th Venice Architecture Biennale (IT), M HKA – Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp (BE), the Cultural Center San Pedro de Atacama (CL), Beursschouwburg – Multidisciplinary Art Center Brussels (BE), PACT Zollverein Essen (DE), Albert van Abbehuis Art Center Eindhoven (NL), Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp (BE), Kunsthalle Trier (DE), IKOB – Museum of Contemporary Art Eupen (BE), CIAP Kunstverein Genk (BE) among others. Residencies, workshops, and talks have taken her to Villa Empain, Fondation Boghossian in Brussels (BE), La Wayaka Current in the Atacama Desert (CL), Hangar – Center for Art Research and Production in Barcelona (ES), Kunsthalle Mainz (DE), Architektūros fondas in Vilnius (LT), and Museum da Pessoa in São Paulo (BR), among others. Together with Eva-Fiore Kovacovsky and Roel Arkesteijn she runs a monthly reading group at the Art&Ecology Ecolab of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp,
